Diagnosis
Organisations set off on the journey of diversity from different points. Many require an initial diagnosis or needs analysis to inform their strategy and pinpoint areas which may need attention. This may include an employee survey, in the design of which RA has specific expertise and experience. Dr Rutherford has developed her own model of organizational culture for use in diagnosing and assessing the diversity needs of organizations, particularly in identifying the ways in which seemingly neutral cultures are gendered.
Case studies
RA conducted a culture audit of a large FTSE 100 Company. This involved using a random, sampled survey and conducting 25 feedback groups plus interviews of key leaders. The aim of the audit was to identify barriers to women in management in different parts of the organization.
In order to identify barriers to women’s progress within an investment bank, RA carried out a culture audit, using feedback groups and interviews.
RA was retained by a global financial services company in order to design and conduct an audit of the demographics, policies and practices which had an impact on diversity and work/life across its major European operations. This involved a series of feedback groups and individual interviews with core leaders in the different markets as well as an analysis of all demographics.
Advice on strategy
RA assists organizations in the development of both national and global diversity strategy. Some may require a policy implementation plan and some may want advice on specific areas of diversity with their organization.
Case studies
RA researched and developed the diversity strategy for a global executive search firm. This paper represented the initial step taken by the firm to ensure that all its consultants understood the concepts associated with diversity, and how important these are for clients.
RA worked with members of a diversity steering group to position a strategy for the introduction of employee networks in a firm of City lawyers. RA then facilitated the meetings of the network over a period of several months.
RA has been assisting and consulting on the development of a global strategy for a large UK engineering company.
